The fact that Naufals blog was about a toy and not something we usually talk about in class attracted me to it. It was interesting to read about designs of things that aren't designed for the people in our class too.

Naufals page shows many different design flaws which was interesting and and related to the class because the page also discussed different ways to fix them as well.

The thing that attracted me to Spencer's blog was that it was about computer design comparisons and the design of computers really interests me. Also, because it was about comparing the deisngs of two different operating systems i thought that was pretty cool.

Spencers site is interesting because it contains many different opinions about the topic and represents all angle. It is also relevant to the class because the design of different operating systems is something that we have often discussed in our class.

"If a customer’s total experience
surrounding a product is bad, it can supersede
everything else about the product, even its
outstanding design."

Why Good Design Doesn’t
Always Guarantee Success

This is relevant to our class because it brings into effect an aspect of design that we haven't talked about too much but is still very important. The design of something has to work well with other non-controllable factors for the entire experience of the user to go well.

"Let's take the whole damn ad/marketing budget and move it over to product manuals and support. Let's put our money where our users are. If we're in it for the short term, then sure--it makes sense to do everything to get a new user, while doing as little as possible once we've got them. But if we're really in it for the long haul--for customer retention and loyal users--then shouldn't we be using all that graphic design and pro writing talent for the people we care about the most? Our users?"

This passage is relative to design because part of the design process is user friendliness. You can draw users into marketing all you want but if the product doesn't work the way they thought it would then they are never going to buy from you again. and you can also draw users into buying a product with glossy brochures but if when they get the product and the manual is not clear enough for them to figure it out, then they aren't likely to purchase another product from you either.

Well designed product

My sunglasses holder has a very good design. It is a hard and durable case with protection on the inside so it has a good funtionality. It does its job of protecting the glasses. It's vey easy to use because al you have to do is use a zipper to open and close it. It has good aesthetics because it is a cool black color and has a cool loking design on the outside as well. It's a simple design and the case is just big enough to hold the glasses so its not overly big and bulky. It has a good functionality, its appealing and simple so it is a good design.

Design flaw

i have an unbreakable water bottle made by eddie bauer. the design flaw it has it that its opening is an awkward size. when you put it to your mouth the top of the opening hits me right in the nose and i don't know whether or not to put the nose in or out and either way is uncomfortable. they could have tested the product on people and got feedback to solve this problem. the bottle on the left is similar to the one i have but not the same exact one.

Protecting An Egg

When starting to design our case for our egg we weren't too sure what to do but then Trey recommended going through the dumpster to find some possible supplies. We found a bunch of bubble wrap and a shoe box. We then stuffed the in in a bunch of bubble wrap and closed that into the shoe box. Just in case that wasn't enough Trey got a garbage bag from an R.A. and we tied it to the shoe box as a parachute. We didn't want to test our design because if the egg broke then we didn't have another one to use so we figured we'd just risk it and have our first run with the design be the one that counted. And to our pleasure our design worked when we dropped the egg into the leaves and onto the pavement; it passed both tests with ease.
